INTERIOR DESIGN FEES | TRANSPARENT PRICING

How We Approach Interior Design Fees

Talking about interior design fees can feel complicated, but when you are deciding whether this is a service you can realistically build into your budget, it becomes a crucial part of the conversation. Some designers publish fixed package prices, but because Rodrigues Interiors offers a truly bespoke, tailored service, it is not always as simple as fitting your project into a standard box. At the same time, just saying “it depends on your project” is not very helpful for you.

To make things clearer, we have outlined a series of real case studies with indicative interior designer cost examples, so you can see the type of projects we work on and where your own renovation or refurbishment might sit.

The most accurate way to understand your own design investment is through The Cornerstone™, our pre design service. This is a smaller, standalone stage that sits before full interior design, but it is vital in defining your brief, exploring your options and setting your project up for success.

Once The Cornerstone™ has been completed and presented, you will have a clear view of your design priorities and a detailed proposal for your interior design fees should you decide to move forward with us.

If you would like to understand more about how our pricing compares within the wider industry, you can also read our blog “Interior Designer Cost (UK) – Why Transparency Matters”.

What Affects Your Design Fee

  1. Scope of Work

How many rooms or areas we are designing, and whether the service covers layouts only, or full design with joinery, lighting, finishes and funishings.

  2. Complexity of the Design

Projects involving bespoke work such as joinery, as well as architectural changes or intricate detailing requires more design time and coordinaton.

  3. Level of Involvement

Whether we are purely engaged for the design stages, or retained to provide on-going input during the build and installation phases.

  4. Timescale

A compressed or fast-track project inevitably demands more resource and out-of-hoours co-ordination.

  5.  Decision-making pace

The smoother and faster the decision process the less time required in revisions and project management.

  6. Size and Type of Property

Larger or listed homes often require additional consideration. liaison with specialists, or bespoke detailing.

  7. Location

Projects in London and surrounding areas typically incur higher costs due to travel and other complexities.

  8. Furniture, Fixtures & Finishes Budget (FF&E)

The design time required is influenced by the level of sourcing - bespoke, mid-range or luxury.

  9. Contractor & Consultant Support

Our involvement would differ depending if you have an architect or builder in place or if we need to co-ordinate trades and consultants.

What Influences Your Design Investment

Understanding these factors helps ensure your design investment is transparent and fair, based on the time, expertise and coordination your specific project requires. There is no fixed national “standard” for interior design fees in the UK; every designer structures pricing differently depending on experience, location, service level and project complexity.

The figures we share below are real life investments made by clients working with Rodrigues Interiors and reflect our full service, start to finish approach. They are there to help you understand typical interior designer cost and budget with confidence rather than tie you to a rigid package.

Please explore the case studies to see which price bracket feels closest to the scope and scale of your own project.

Open Plan Living/Kitchen

Chelmsford

BRIEF

To redesign a large open-plan living, dining and kitchen.  Needing to be zoned to reflect the different uses of the open-plan space.  Wanting a streamlined kitchen with no corners and clear working island.  Low maintenance finishes but needed to add some sparkle.  Needed plenty of storage and lots of pan drawers for easy access.  Ideally would want a cosy area by the open fire that is pure comfort with little clutter.  A lovely place to sit in the evening and enjoy outdoor lighting in the garden and during the day for views of the garden.  Needed to also be functional to watch the tv.  Dining area needed to accommodate up to 8 people.  Lighting options needed to be considered for every occasion.  Required new windows and doors and window treatments to shade the room from the south facing sun during the day and provide some comfort at night.
The design concept was to create a strong masculine/industrial vibe towards the kitchen with softer elements towards the sitting area but still as one identity.  Clever use of lighting to create moods and sparkle.

SERVICES GIVEN:

  • Design concept imagery establishing the decorative design direction

Open-plan kitchen renovation with view towards the kitchen appliances to show a vaulted ceiling

We had waited a long time to be able to have a new kitchen in our extension so we wanted it to be right!  We had never worked with an interior designer before but we are both amazed at what has been achieved.  Rodrigues Interiors seem to take a long time to really understand what we wanted to do and really came up with some amazing ideas so in the end, we had everything we could have hoped for and more.  We will probably live in this one space as we love it so much. We would whole-heartedly recommend their services to anyone thinking of having some interior design in their home.
